Default 02 1.8T no heater?

Heater wont work on either side of the car. Car runs at normal temp according to the gauge. Also, i get a low coolant warning sometimes when the car is cold. Is it normal for the car to use some?

No its not normal for the car to use coolant. You probably have a leak, there is a TSB repair for a leaky O-ring under the intake manifold which will cause heater problems.

The TSB itself tells you how to repair it and what part numbers you need, have the dealer find and print you out the TSB. Im not quite sure if they will print it out for you if you intend to repair it yourself, tell them you just want to review the TSB's about poor heating and a coolant leak.

Ok yesterday the car started getting up to 3/4 on the temp gauge so i started looking for a source for the coolant today. There is no audi dealer here so i went to vw and got the G12. Today, the car started getting all the way to the red on the gauge. I put coolant in and it takes a second but it all comes pouring out of a spot by the block right to the left of the oil filter. I tried to take a picture and i think i got a shot of where it is coming out.

oh i guess i cant post pictures... hmm

does anyone have an idea of what this might be? its a coolant hose that goes into a black plastic elbow kind of thing, that goes into the block. maybe this is the o ring you talked about auditech79, it is under the intake manifold.

thanks for any help guys!

After some more research im thinking it could be the thermostat or something related. thats exactly where its leaking from.

Do you guys think it would be bad to drive the car from where it is sitting to my house like a mile away?

thanks for the help

Well as long as it wont get into the red, stop if you have to. You're just talking about getting it home right? Not commuting with it still? I'm sure it's be safe. I mean, I drove 25 miles on a Subaru with 3 broken wheel nuts, one stripped, and the other weakened, and the wheel wobbling and flopping on the hub... so... maybe I'm not the best person to listen to, but I'd drive it home.

The thermostat is behind the timing belt, take a wider shot from the motor so i can see where it is leaking. Is it leaking from that hose or the block? If thats under the intake manifold thats the leak i was talking about.

I cant really get a wider shot until i take some of it apart, but that is under the UIM, the dipstick is the yellow thing on the left, and the filter is at the top right, just to give some relative items. I had to size the pic down to be able to post it. If you look at this picture http://www.putfile.com/pic/6787266/?action=zoom that i found in a thermostat write-up it is leaking from or around the plastic elbow hose that is behind that UIM brace. (disregard the circles in that pic, i didnt put them there)

Thanks again guys, this is my wife's daily driver!

edit: Just went and got the car and it did not over heat. I even let it idle for a little once i got home and it still sat at the normal temp. No leaks while the car is running. There is no coolant in the res bc it runs right out when i put any in.
