'03 A4 3.0 quattro 6spd Major Engine Issues
Just hit 100,000 miles and started feeling engine vibrations. Mainly in the shift **** and clutch pedal. Brought it into Audi and they spent 4 hours trying to diagnose the problem. Unsuccessfully. They said it COULD be an off-balance or off-camber flywheel? Has anyone heard of or had this problem in their 3.0 Engine? They also said my engine mounts had failed, but most likely isn't the problem.
Quoted at $3,000 for a clutch kit and flywheel with install. I'm going to try to do it myself if this the problem, but I'd really like a better diagnosis, or idea if this is the actual problem. Coils have been replaced due to recall back in April of '10 with 97000 miles.
More symptoms:
-Vibration at all RPM level's. Naturally some RPM levels are worse than others.
-Vibrations have gotten worse over the course of driving 200-300 miles since first noticing the problem.
-It has become EXTREMELY DIFFICULT to change gears. Especially popping it into reverse. I have to drop the rev's all the way down to idle to be able to move the shift **** into gear. (I don't even drive it anymore because I can barely get it into gear)
-clutch feels fine. Like it did when i bought it with 90000 miles.
-check engine light just came on. Ordered a code reader which should be here soon.
-engine starts fine and doesn't misfire.
-Can't really tell, but maybe slight loss in power?
Could it be the coils again even though the dealer just replaced them? The audi dealer's explanation for the flywheel problem makes sense, but they said it is extremely rare...
Please help.-Dan
