04 A4 1.8T coils

Hello there,

I am a new owner of an A4 1.8T and I noticed in the vehicles records that it had the coil replaced for cylinders 2, 3, and 4 and it seems ot be aquirk with these cars.My question is, how do you know when they go bad? Is it a complete failure (i.e., will you have a cylinder misfiring) or is performance just reduced? Also, will it throw a code if a coil goes bad?

Thanks,

It just happened to me last week, the car will start missfiring or shaking really bad and then the check engine light will blink and if you get the codes read it will tell you what cylinder is missfiring, you will loose lots of performance and if you don't get it fixed you are risking cloggng your catalyticconverter after a while.

Thank you jzmuda. What do you use to read your codes? Do you have a code reader/diagnostic tool you recommend?

Thanks,

Ya... just go to AUTOZONE and they have a code reader you can use. But like MCBURTON said, you will notice a bad coil when you start to misfire and lose a bit of power

I have a VagCom and a SnapOn reader but VagCom is the way to go.
