recently hooked up the computer and it read P1296, fuel air metering. I thought this was kind of weird considering when I looked up what P1296, it said it was cooling system malfunction. I dont know if the problem is fuel air metering or cooling system malfunction, the car seems to be running fine and it is not overheating but I need to settle this. I havent had any problems earlier so I'm not too familiar with what to fix or replace, any help would be great. thanks

so is u car runing okay and ur just throwing a code. IF it said fuel air metering u might want to check and clean ur MAF which is infront of ur airbox. IT should be easy to do.

Default Also have recurring p1296...

I've replaced both Coolant Temp Sensors on my 2002 A4 1.8T and also and keep getting the Check engine light. What else could this be? Car seems to be running fine.
Any help would be appreciated...

Default OBD II code P1296 Engine Cooling System Malfucntion

I too am getting the engine light on with the code of P1296.I have not replaced the sensors as mention on the other member that posted earlier. The car does runs fine with no over heating, but before I go on.....he mentioned that it was an air fuel problem ? Now I'm really confused on that code........any techs out there that knows of this problem with this other codes, cause my code reader OBD II is a Equus 3100 Innova that hasn't failed any of it's diagnostics so far.

I have not replaced the thermostat. After seeing from other DIY's on how to remove this water pump and thermostat, all I can say is : is dang, that's alot of stuff to remove in order to work on it........not like working on my restored 59' Chevy pickup, where there's nothing in there but motor........
