2003 Audi A4 Avant need advice!
Hey guy! I am new here and new to Audi's. We are looking for a new car and are looking at the 2003 A4 Avant. It has 144,000 miles on it. I have heard that cost for repairs are extensive because German cars are always breaking down! Is this true? We love the looks and feel of the Audi, but do not want to buy something that will cost us an arm and a leg in repairs! You guys are the experts, what do you say!?? Thanks all!
Oh and I am not new to working on cars, if something does break down on an Audi, how easy are they to work on? Thanks!
Here is a pic of what we are looking at:

We just bought a 2003 Audi A4 1.8T Quattro Avant but with much lower miles than the one you are looking at. Which motor is that avant fitted with?
I think the 1.8T is much cheaper to maintain than the 3.0ltr when you are getting to that age. The 3.0ltr is a quicker engine but the 1.8T can be made to be quick for little $$$
The most important thing with a car with those miles is an inspection...........get a mechanic to inspect it, preferably someone with audi experience

most of the issues are timing belt, valve cover gasket, coil packs (at that mileage, i assume they've already been replaced with updated ones), and sometimes rear transmission seal, and of course, window switches.
the most costly issue is the timing belt. figure on around $1000 if it needs to be replaced(should be every 70-80k)
