Default 2004 Cabriolet shifter bezel, two diff types?

Hi there:

I finally got around to swapping out the shifter bezel on my sister's 04 auto with triptronic with a bezel I bought online. I posted a prior thread stating I was going to powder coat it (it had a few light scratches) to give it more protection against all the nasty chips and scratches that the original one had. The first round of powder coating yielded a silver gray color even though I said stainless. It looked like crap. I went to a different place and they stripped eveything off, ground it down to bare metal and polished it up to a shiny finish, then clear coat. Looked really nice. I went to install it yesterday and it snapped on fine after I figured out how to remove the shifter ****.

But something didn't look quite right. Then, I realized that the new bezel did not have the "S" shift point, only PRND with the separate gate for the triptronic. I was like wtf? I did not know there were two different auto transmissions for this car. Now, I have to get the original bezel ground down and polished. Does anyone know which A4s that bezel will fit so I can list it for sale for the correct model.

Not too happy after all that headache and it turned out to be the wrong part.

Thanks,

Ted, Chicago

Anyone? Beuller? Someone has to know what I'm talking about. I would like to know which models the replacement shifter bezel fits so I can sell it. I don't want another buyer to go through the same hassle as I did.

I was thinking it could be diff for quattro and fwd but I looked at some pictures and that's not true. Call a dealer, give them your vin, and get the part number.

I guess my thread wasn't clear as to what questions I need answered. I am not looking to replace the original shifter bezel anymore since the one I bought online doesn't have the "S" shift notch/opening. Therefore, giving my sister's VIN to the dealer is a moot point. For some odd reason, Audi makes a different auto transmission w/o the "S" and I am trying to figure out which A4s (or other Audi models) use the shift bezel with only the PRND positions.

I am going to try the dealer and see what they can tell me. I have the original dealer part wrapper that the new bezel came in if I could just find it after my wife cleaned up our office.

If anyone out there knows the answer, that would be greatly appreciated. I am getting the original shift bezel polished up and clear coated to be reinstalled in my syster's car. So, I will be sutck with this other bezel that I have no use for.

I would like to sell it to someone with the correct application instead of just posting this online and giving someone a headache down the road.

Ok so call a dealer, tell them the part number, and they should be able to tell you the application.
