3.0 Exhaust questions
So for Xmas my Dad has hinted he wants something done to the exhaust on this car. He has a 2005 A4 3.0 quattro that is bone stock. He wants to tease a little more sound out of the exhaust without sounding like a ricer or 20 year old in a WRX. Initially I thought cutting out one, or a few, of his mufflers and doing straight piping. But after reading about some of the folks here that have done that, and in some cases re-installed the mufflers because of the un-bearable noise, I think it would be too much for him to handle.
I am left with two ideas. One is some kind of Magnaflow Double Wall Tips. My thinking is it would only slightly change the appearance of his car, and only slightly adjust the sound (can anyone attest to how much if at all?). And it would give me something to wrap vs having his car already worked on prior to Xmas. I am going to measure his car for this option, hopefully on the sly, tonight. But does anyone know where I might find the diameter measurements so I know which tips to get without me blowing my surprise?
The second is two magnaflow mufflers to replace his stock ones (there are 3 on the 2005 A4 3.0 right?) but I think this might be too loud for him. And of course it would be more expensive, but if it is the better option I may just have to go for it.

How much would two new magnaflow mufflers change the sound? Too much is my guess.

put 14851 magnaflows on it. thats what i have on mine and i love it. I left the resonator in (the smaller muffler near the middle of the car) but i think im going to take it out. I wasn mine a little louder. sounds great as it is though.
