Default 7 quarts...are you serious?

I just did my first oil change today. I have driven 4k miles already and felt unsure about the previous owner so i just went ahead and took it in. I know the people who owns the shop I go to so I don't have any concerns of a crappy job being done on my car. They le me take my own parts while labor cost me $10 just because I'm lazy and it's too damn humid here. I had the motor flushed and put in fresh Valvoline Synpower full synthetic 5w30. The filter was a Fram but if you open it up and look at the filter, it says Mann and it's black with foreign writing all over it. I'm assuming this is an OEM filter because I work at Checker Auto and all 3 filters of this part number has the same filter in it. The part number is PH8994. I thought 6 quarts was going to be enough but i was wrong and shocked to see it took a whole 7 quarts to fill this thing up. Is this normal? My ride is an 02' 3.0 v6.

Its 4.5 for a 1.8 and I don't think it should be much of a difference between the 2. You don't have a V10 or anything.

Default B6 AVK engine oil capacity

Yes the 3.0L V6 AVK engine takes about 7 quarts (6.8) at an oil change. Feel fortunate as the newer S4 with the BHF V8 takes 9.5 quarts per oil change.

Whats the best type of oil for 1.8t B6? Synthetic obviously. Amsoil, Royal Purple, Mobile 1? How much? Reading this thread sounds like 4.5 qts. Which weight?

^I found the "European Blend" Castrol Sytec at Autozone that is supposed to be a good summer oil. Its 0W30 and its made in Germany.

I don't mean to call you dumb or anything, but you did start the engine and let the oil filter fill up with oil before checking the dip stick right?? If you didn't start the engine it would seem full on the dip stick only putting 3 quarts in it.

Thats not a good sign, thats an indicator that you have sludge built up in the engine fooling you into thinking the engine is full of oil. I would pour a half can of seafoam into the crankcase and run the engine for 50 miles or so then change it to get rid of all that extra sludge. If you don't, you're probably gonna get that terrible oil pressure light!
