>>>Rolling Blackout - nice link! A step-by-step with pictures is always helpful!

Does anyone have a copy of the Blauparts instructions they can scan and email? Just curious how detailed they are...

>>>rayveedub....if I lived near Baltimore I'd be bringing this to you for $850! (Ft Worth, TX is a bit of a haul though...)

Thanks!

I don't have a scanner, other wise, I'd PM them to you.

I have an 03 3.0 Quattro. Just got the timing belt changed at 76k at a local shop that specializes in German cars. Here is what the bill looks like:

Labor: $560

Timing Belt
Idler Pulleys
Water Pump $932
Serpentine Belt
Idler Pulleys

Total: $1492.00

The dealer wanted $2200 and I hear they are notorious for finding other problems with your car whether they exist or not.

Wow, Leo...that looks like fun!!! You say you saved $500. Where and what did you get for a quote to have someone else do it?

Default Just got mine done

Just bit the bullet and had it done. I could not find any record of it having been done, so I doubt it was. The shop was impressed on how clean and how good the parts removed looked. They saved them for me to show me without my asking and I kept them. The manager said his mechanic got spoiled with the service position and how clean and well kept the car was. The manager and owner could not believe how well it has aged. Its a 2003 A4 3.0 with 104000 miles.

Timing Belt
Timing Belt Tensioner Damper
Timing Belt Tensioner Pulley
Timing Belt Roller
Water Pump
Coolant
Sealer
Serpentine Belt
Serpentine Belt Tensioner
Parts Total: $733.84
Labor: $664
Supplies: $4.85
Tax $44.03

Total: $1446.72

jrkstore43, gsimms quote is about how much they quoted me...the dealership was $180 per hour for labor, so i didn't care to ask the rest. Other smaller Audi or universal shops asked no more than $1,100.

Well my orginal quote was $1056 dollars before tax, but the timing belt was more expensive than originally quoted so they let me have it at cost, and I had other parts replaced that were not mandatory replacements. The serpentine belt and its tensioner which I had replaced, have not been included in any sub $1100 dollar quotes I have received, or heard of including this one. My logic was they have to take them off anyway, so why not. I am happy with the shop, since they are the most affordable, reputable, and trustworthy place I know of in auto repair, I was glad they were recommended by www.honestautoestimates.com. I would have contacted them anyway, if I realized they serviced imports. If you are in Southeast Georgia, or Northeast Florida and want it done right, call Johnsons Auto at 912-729-4362. Thier labor rate was $80 an hour.

Just did the T-belt job myself on my '03 3.0. It's not bad at all. If you've never wrenched on anything before, I'd let someone else do it. Otherwise, go for it. The Blauparts kit didn't include the timing belt tensioner or the thermostat, but the tool rental package was top notch. Make sure you have a torque wrench, too.

I had one minor hiccup (crushed a brittle plastic crankcase vent hose on the back of the bank 1 valve cover), but I really gained a greater appreciation for how well these cars are thought out and built. The bentley manual calls for disconnecting a coolant hose at the oil cooler to drain the remaining coolant, but that hose wasn't coming off without breaking stuff. Same for the hose to the heater core (for bleeding coolant), so I bled it by running for a few minutes with the lid off of the reservoir. I'd like to have been able to completely drain and flush the coolant. Any tips/tricks for disconnecting those seized rubber hoses?

Note: This isn't really my first post. I haven't been around this forum in over a year (moving, job change, general chaos), and have forgotten my original password and e-mail address I registered with.

How difficult is it to change the timing belt on a 2004 A4 B6 with a 3.0?
