A4 B6 Return Fuel Line capped by mechanic
Hi, I have a 2002 A4 Avant Quattro w/ the 3.0 L engine. About 2 weeks ago the fuel pump failed. I was going to do the work myself but then decided against it and had a mechanic (reputable independent Audi guy) replace both the fuel pump (got one used) and fuel filter.
After the pump was replaced the fuel gauge was not working properly and the low fuel light was on constantly. Today I replaced the fuel sender unit myself and found that the Return Fuel Line had been capped by the mechanic. Is this something i should be concerned about... can it result in problems with fuel pressure or fuel tank pressure or other problems?
This is what the fuel pump should look like (and i think mine looked like this before taking it to the mechanic):
UPDATE: spoke to the mechanic today -- he told me the original fuel pump only had the one line for the fuel (no return line) and that was why he needed to cap the return line on the newer pump. I spoke to two dealers and gave them my VIN to make sure i was getting the correct fuel pump for replacement (8E0 906 087P). I know that the fuel pump part number 8E0 906 087N also sometimes comes up when doing a search for my car -- so my car may have originally had that pump -- does it only have the one fuel port (no return)?
and this is how it looks after the mechanic replaced the fuel pump -- Any advice or info you can provide would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!!
