A4 no run

Unhappy A4 no run

hi... got a a4 here that starts but will not take throttle, then gradually dies after 5 to 10 second with alot of smoke. checked the flap it opens and closes as should, checked fuel tank pumpon ign delivers as far as the hihg pressure pump at vacumn pump...disconnected exhaust, ckecked turbo propellor,checked 3slotted holes in cam they havnt slipped, wired fuel pump in tank straight but stil same..feels like fuel because it starts up ,runs then dies with smoke.. could it be high pressure pump? any way of checking it ? anybody any ideas??

Yeah, it does sound like a fuel problem, you said your fuel pump is fine?

yeah it seems ok. first i just switched on ign and you can hear the pump for bout 3 sec or so....so i just ran my own wire just to keep it goin all the time but stil the same. starts fine then gradually dies with alot of smoke. this car would not run on this pump alone im sure but could there be a problem with the high pressure pump maybe?? Have you seen this before?

Im thinking either coils, plugs, or head gasket. If it does run and there is smoke there has to be fuel and it has to be getting something else, like coolant or oil, in the chambers. Or, it could just not be burning off all of the fuel.

What does the smoke look and smell like??

Hi ....this car is a diesel 1.9 with the pd engine. noticed that when car would start for the 8sec there was no pressure form exhaust, i no its not blocked so no air getting in maybe!! noticed with mass air flow disconnect the car ran!! thought it was the sensor...new sensor ran better but not the cure. so when left running 2 min approx change in noise from engine, ok got a small scan tool, maf reads 4 to 5 m/gr on the tester when started after 2 mins it goes up to 11 to 12m/gr, dip the throttle and it goes back down and runs bad...noticed egr valve opens at this stage....disconnect and checked valve ok but with valve blocked off the car runs perfect!!!! so whose telling the valve to open ?? is it supposed to do this?? is it some thing else?
