Alarm starts when doors are locked
When I lock the doors from the outside the alarm will sound until the doors are unlocked. Locking once again will produce a normal single beep. This happens when locking with the remote fob or using the key in the door. The second key produces the same results. On occasion, the locking process will function normally but this is the exception. No other electrical faults are noticeable.
All was well until recently. The normally used key went dead. I changed the battery but still did not function. The second key was put into play and produced the alarm trick. Off to the dealer for a key reprogram of the original key. Now both exhibit the same alarm upon locking. the dealer says that there was a fault code for a shorted horn and wants to replace it. The horn beeps (or peeps) quite nicely and always had so I think it is not the problem.
Any ideas?
Thanks

Having similar problems - did you ever get this fixed?

No. No one has suggested any fix or given any suggestions. I did find something about the alarm on another board (forgot the name now). Apperantly there is a rechargable battery inside the alarm module behind the back bumper somwhere. Funny things can happen if the battery is not up to snuff and the alarm will just die if the battery fails, and it will fail because of age at some time. The entire alarm must be replaced $$$. I just live with the problem. The locking system works just fine.
Codes please. The other forum is probably Audiforum.us there's a guy there named PETROLDAVE that has helped me a lot with electronics, he's in the UK though.

I don't know what the code was. The dealer just said "shorted horn" code. There is nothing wrong with the alarm horn/siren (or regular horn for that matter). Standard fixes like reprogramming the key or re synching the key to the car had no effect. Both keys act the same way.
This has been happening for over one year now with no change. Check the date on my first post.
After the alarm is set off with the LOCK button, pressing the UNLOCK will stop the beeping. Another press of the LOCK and all operates normally. Fifteen minutes later all is still normal. One hour later the alarm will be set off again with LOCK. The upside: all of my neighbors know when I come home and lock the car.

I had similar issues with my wife's Land Rover before. We had it even worse. Sometimes it locked normally but the alarm goes off in the middle of the night suddently. That was one of the reasons we dumpped the car.
Somewhere along the system is short. You need to have someone to trace the circuit which is PITA and cost $$$ too. Good luck.
