Default AMB Engine cam issues

My girlfriend was driving my car and said she just lost power. She stated it sounded like a 'thump' and then it lost all power and would not restart. The belt is in good condition, the cam sprocket bolt however is not. I tried to start it and it spun free, I'm sure I've got several bent valves. The bolt for the cam sprocket was loose and felt like the snout of the camshaft had split. Has anyone else heard of this happening before??? There is no modifications to the engine in any way. Any incite on why this would have just snapped, split or whatever would be helpful. I've not disassembled the engine yet but will be posting an update when I do this. I've rebuilt several Audi engines and built 400+hp 1.8ts and I've never heard of anything like this happening before. And just for reference the timing belt has be on the car over 20K miles, with no issues.
