Anybody ever replaced a seatbelt buckle?
My driver's side seatbelt has released on me at least twice now while I was driving. I'm not certain that it wasn't me just not seating it well enough when I buckled up, but I'd rather just replace it with a new part and not have to worry about it. How tough is it to do this, and does anybody know where I can order the part? ECS doesn't seem to have it, or if they do, my search-fu is weak.
Hm, just got off the phone with the local shop I occasionally use (lots closer to me than the one I prefer), and they said it's a dealer-only part and the dealer wants $212 for it! *sigh*
I'd need your vin# to see which one you'd need, but I see 2 choices for that drivers side buckle. One at 138.75, the other for 78.75 dollars. Please PM or call us to figure out which one you need.
Can I PM you for a quote as well? Thanks!
Frere Taz, if you run into any difficulty with the removal/replacement, feel free to PM me. It's not too hard, but there are a few things about it that are goofy. Need 8mm and 10mm triple-square drivers, for starters, and secondly, you probably want a new bolt for the bolt that holds it to the seat, as that bolt has some thread locker on it from the factory. Whatever you do, DO NOT try to use Torx drivers for this; you'll strip the heads of the bolts. You definitely need triple squares.
hey, somewhat related, im wondering if its possible to replace just the actual seat belt? my seat belt functions properly but the previous owner had a dog who bit and tore the belt to shreds. any chance you have that too? thanks
For a price example, drivers side belt which includes the reel mechanism of course, for an 02-04 A4q in black is 430.00 retail, internet price 322.50 plus shipping. Which, due to the hazmat issue on these belts would run very close to 45.00 per seat belt to ship. The reel mechanism has an explosive device in it that in the event of an accident where the airbags are deployed will lock that seat belt from allowing the belt to extend. So that is the reason hazmat charges are applied to many seat belts. It is a charge that UPS bills us for as well.
