Default APR ECU upgrade worth it??

Hi, got an 02 a4 1.8T CVT with straight pipes and resonator deleted. I was wonderin how much the upgrade will stress the engine/turbo. I'm pretty much a newbie but I want a lil bit more power than 170hp.

Car is at 137k miles. Will it decrease it's life span?

Also, how much would the gas mileage decrease if I do upgrade?

Thanks

EDIT: I use the CVT quite a bit, for passing people and such...will the tranny die a lot sooner than if i use normal drive mode? I feel like the normal drive mode gets me less mpg but idk if thats me. any advice?

i just got the stage1 upgrade on saturday and it is night and day how much different it performs. the fuel economy on cruising is actually better because it is a better tune so its more efficient.

OP, when you say CVT you mean tiptronic I assume?

There is a chip for the tiptronic, but there are limits to how much more power you can put to teh tranny before it can't handle it.

I have used both the APR stage 1 and stage 1+ on my B6. In my own opinion you should just go straight to the APR stage 1+ upgrade and skip the stage 1. I think the stage 1 is a waste of money. But going stage 1+ you will need the audi TT 255 injectors. I didn't really see a big gas decrease when chipping the car. Only a slight decrease that's only if you have a heavy foot and are always mashing the pedal. And any mods done to any car will decrease the life of the engine.

I also contacted APR direct when I was trying to make my decision on an APR chip upgrade. And they have told me the 2004 Audi A4 1.8T with CVT transmission can handle the Stage 1+ and exhaust with no stress issues.

Sorry but I have to disagree with you that any mod decreases engine life. This more so reflects how the owner maintains and drives their car. If this was an issue do you think people would be doing these upgrades?
Surely if you beat the shyt out of the car, it will fail somewhere and at some point.

If you do the ecu upgrade and still baby the car it will last. It's no different except for stress involved. Boosting at high rpm/speed for extended period of time will overheat the engine and turbo

getting the stage 1 tomorrow. anything i need to know about the diverter valves? should i upgrade asap or will factory dv's handle the ecu upgrade?

and in the future for the 1+, all i need is the TT's 225hp fuel injectors? do i really need a carbonio intake and such?

the injectors are a must. at stage 1 the stock injectors are pretty much maxed. the diverter valve i would say upgrade as soon as you can, if not before. I am not sure on the stock valve psi rating, but its plastic and it may crack.

710N will work just fine. You don't need to spend a lot on a diverter valve.

Aftermarket valves may be considerably nicer/better, but they are also ridiculously expensive vs the OEM upgrade. Of course, if you're paying someone else to put it in, then the more durable options may actually be more cost-effective. $150 - $250 for parts + whatever labor costs once is probably cheaper than $50 + labor 2 or 3 times, depending on the cost of the labor, and people definitely have had 710N valves fail, especially when running them reversed with lots of boost.

If I had a big pile of money burning a hole in my pocket, I'd go for the Synchronic (its design concept seems pretty great, but at $250, it's EXPENSIVE). Given that I don't, I'll probably get a 710N immediately before chipping my car, put it in myself, and hope that it lasts.
