Default b6 Grinding/purring noise?

Hi all,

I could use some advice. Thanks in advance!

I have had my 2003 A4 Quattro (77,000 miles) for a month now. Love it! But in the morning, when I back out of my driveway and shift into drive, I feel/hear a slight grinding -- hard to describe, not very loud, but I also feel it in the pedal -- as the transmission kicks in. It only last a second. The car runs great otherwise.

I took it to my independent mechanic today, but of course it refused to do it. Maybe it only happens when the engine in cold? COuld it be a transmission thing? A torque converter thing? Anyone know what I am talking about?

My bmw does that too.. only after backing out of my parking spot first thing in the morning.. its a 5 spd.. so maybe its not your torque converter?

I have the same problem. I think its our timing belts i've done some reading and A4s recommend changing the timing belt at 70,000 miles mines at about 78,000 so i think i'm due as are you
