is a B6 right for me? new driver
OK I'm 16 and have had my license for 1 whole month. And I'm sick of using mommy's and daddy's cars so i've been on the hunt...
Today I came across a 2002 audi a4 3.0 quattro with an auto(wish it had a stick
but o well)
any hoo its got leather and all the goodies on it with 79k on the clock and if I buy it it will depleate my funds intirelly, minus gas. So is it worth it to buy it as far as metance go's cuz i won't have the mony for repairs that requare a mecanic (im good with my hands so i can do most stuff myself)
really I want to now if relability is good on it or not thanks
Zach
P.S. this car is clean as far as looks

In all honestly, if its gonna hit your wallet pretty good, its not the car for you... couple reasons... gotta put 91 octane (good thing gas is going down a bit). As far as maintenance goes, it gets pricey on these cars... Since the car your looking at is rounding the 80k mark, its highly advised to do the timing belt maintenance along with everything else... The timing belt kit roughly costs around $250-$300, then if you have a reputable indie shop do the work they'll prolly charge you about $500 for labor... As far as regular maintenance, scheduled oil changes with full syntethic, etc... Reliability is a different question... Expect it to be decent in reliability... Now if your gonna mod it, thats a whole other ballgame... Since its a 3.0, theres really not much you can do to it power wise except for a supercharger, and thats gonna run around $5-6k. Want my opinion? Perhaps look into a B5 since it will be cheaper to buy and save the money for maintenance or mods, or simply just buy a used civic or something.
Also what if the timmong belt and all were all ready replaced?[/QUOTE]
Make sure it has maintence records from previous, when i was looking for my a4, that would be a deal breaker for me. Also a clean carfax..(sometimes a car fax will show the car serviced too)

Trust me... I've gone down your route too... I bought my Audi when I was 17, paid about 35% of it down at the dealer and financed the rest (30k car, brand new). At the time, i had the money to purchase it... Since it was a new car, there wasn't much maintenance that had to be done, plus i had the 5 yr service warranty, etc... But my finances went to **** because of the car... I barely had enough to pay for the payments, insurance and gas, much less go out and eat and party, etc... I toughed it out for 5 yrs working 18+hr days just to pay for it... Its not a good thing to do, yeah, you drive a cool car, but thats about it... If i had a chance to do it over, I would have bought a car about half the price and saved the rest of it, or had money to use for other things...
As far as the timing belt being done already, make sure you get records of it. Thats a good load of money to get that service done ($800ish at an indie shop, $1200+ at dealer). Its an european car, you gotta pay to play... Nothing is going to be cheap on this car
Your young, you should be out having fun and ****, not stressing over how much a car costs or if you have money to do this or that...

whatever you decide to do.... try to keep a grand somewhere safe just in case for repairs... like everyone else said, it is a high cost car to maintain and repair.. the last thing you want is to dump all your cash on this car and not have any money saved up for a misc repair
I'll guess that, regardless of how sweet you'll think your new car is, you're still gonna be embarrassed when someone driving a '93 Dodge Caravan or '87 Ford Taurus or '91 Chevy Cavalier or '96 Hyundai Accent or '84 Toyota Tercel (i'm not sure about an '87 Yugo)etc.etc. stomps your Audi. I was...(although I've never actually raced these cars or "raced" in general I'm just saying that stock performance is relatively weak)
