Bad oil leak

Hello,

I bought a B6 2.4l last week and in the last few days a oil leak has been getting worse and worse.

The car is a right hand drive and if I look underneath the car it seems to be coming from near the left side of the engine(if you are sitting in the car). At first I noticed it was just a few drops but now it is getting pretty bad, overnight it dropped about a 20cm puddle.

The car is under warranty but what possible reasons are there for this kind of oil leak.

So I'm guessint it's a diesel right? Keep checking the oil level and if you have a warranty have the place you bought it from check it.

Check the engine compartment to see if you see an obvious reason for the leak (i.e. the filler cap loose/not present)

It's not diesel.

I have checked the engine and transmission oil regularly and they seem to be at a good consistent level but the car is just leaking more and more.

Here are a few photos.

That seems to be coming from either the oild filter being loose or not having a gasket, or the drainplug loose or not having a gasket. Take the underbelly pan out and check the filter and the drainplug.

Had the underbelly pan taken off and there had a fair bit of oil on it which seems to have originated from the front(near the oil filter) and then pushed back due to wind.

There had a bit of oil around the oil filter but that has been cleaned up and I have left the underbelly pan off the car and am doing a few tests to see if it is coming from the filter.

ok.

I cleaned the oil filter and then did a rev test keeping it at 2000rpm for about 10 minutes and I noticed oil was leaking from the oil filter so I guess I have found my problem.

Thanks for the help.

Make sure you put a new gasket on that bad boy.
