Belt tensioner issue
I recent had a belt and belt tensioner replaced on my 2003 A4 1.8T avant. Problem is, now there is a high pitch noise coming from the engine when I pull off hard or suddenly speed up. Could it be that the belt is too tight? The shop that put it in told me the the tensioner or belt isn't adjustable. If that is true, perhaps the used a belt that was too small? I can't figure out where the noise is coming from. It's so high at times, only a dog can hear it. HELP

I assume you mean timing belt and tensioner. Well in order to do that they have to remove several other belts. Are you sure its the timing belt making the noise? Could be the A/C belt/pulley or the P/S pump/pulley.
|
I assume he means acc belt tensioner. The noise could be coming from the timing belt though. How many miles are on the car and has the tb been done?
|
I mean the belt that connects the camshaft, A/C pulleys etc in the frontbof the engine. The engine is new, timing belt is new. Engine was replaced by the dealer back in December.

So the motor is under warranty? Take it to the dealer and tell them to fix it!
|
^ But if an independent shop is found at fault, Audi won't cover it.

I bought the car used with that new motor. Will audi cover me or does coverage not transfer?
|
I would think the warranty would carry over. But like I said, if the shop that did the work is found responsible, they won't cover the repairs. You should check with that shop and see if they will cover the costs if Audi finds them at fault.
Some shops are good about that. The shop that worked on my a/c ($800 later and still no a/c) told me to take it in, and if it was something related to what they did, they would cover the costs for me. |
Who put the new motor in? If the motor was new in December why did the belt and tensioner need to be replaced?

The dealer wheee the engine was replaces is in another state. Just found out coverage is transferable. I have extended coverage on the engine and drivetrain up to 3 years. Does the wastegate keep any noise? |
