Ok, so I have a stock'03 A41.8T, 78k miles, so I am past my warranty, so I'm not worried about voiding the warranty. I just wanted to get some opinions on what is the best performance upgrade I can do for under $1000? I have no experience, and I am a complete Audi newbie, so anyone with some experience in this area would be much appreciated. Thanks.

What mod should I do first?

Okay, so you just got your A4 and you want to start modding it. Which mods should you buy first? The absolute first thing you should do is a chip. By far it offers the most bang for the buck. Expect to pay around $500 for a good one + labor and tax. With this $500 you will be getting roughly 40-50 hp and 60-80 ft/lbs of tq. When you get a chip you will also have to upgrade the DV (diverter valve). The stock ones in the car are plastic and crappy and will not be able to handle the added boost the chip provides. Next mods, you can get are intake (although the stock airbox is very efficient, and anything aftermarket is mainly for the cool sound), test pipe/hfc, exhaust, turbo inlet pipe, water/meth injection, and nitrous. You can do other mods that don’t add power like snub mount, short shifter, and suspension. What you do after that is entirely up to how far you want to take the car and how deep your pockets are. APR 1+ (lots more power/torque.. stage 1 is barely worth it)

but i would also argue for my stasis streetsport coilovers... $800 on group buy.. looks awesome (check out my gallery pics) and you just THINK your car handles good now

 

stage 1 if he has never had a faster car would be night and day difference

but 1+ he does get like an extra 20hp and more tq, but will also need to get higher flowing injectors..... get them through apr and you are looking at about a grand for the whole thing, minus dv i think

get stage 1 and it is 499

or get 1+ which is like 499 then find injectors on the forums in the fs section and pay a fraction of the cost

or last option find someone with same car that is selling their ecu that is already tunes and save a boat load of mula



i know i am a b5 guy, but i got my ecu off here for 300 with apr programming already on it.... and like 3 or 4 programs.... which you might have to pay extra for

i barely noticed my 1+ and was bored of it within a week... i wouldnt consider anything less than 1+... you can get injectors from manguyen for around $350 shipped it think, plus DV is still under $1k, do the install yourself in their parking lot... www.goapr.com has injector install instructions

you can get a 710n DV for about $50 i think

we cant swap ecu's as easily as b5s.... his best bet is to pay for it

 

so i see the first thing to do to the car.. is to chip it..well at least thats what the link said to do.. which is roughly under 1k.. any links for any good chips..cause i have been looking and found nothing so far.

 

I love my APR 1+ chip, especialy being able to switch it to stock mode when i dont wana do any hard driving for a while. Yea, and the injectors are nice, but to be honest, i went from stock to Stage 1+, so i wouldnt have been able to see a difference between 1 and 1+. The only other audi ive been in that had just Stage 1 ship was a B5 tiptronic.

 

APR was already mentioned a few times, why ask which one?

With a B6 go APR 1+ and order your injectors separately like papa said.

I'm not sure how the injectors will run on a stock ECU so it might not be worth it to pay for the stock program to be loaded also. my girl has got the Stage 1+ 93oct and 100oct programming for K04. when i bought the flash APR had a sale and i got a second program for free. i went with the 100oct for my second program since i don't think the stock programming wouldn't have done me much good with all my mods.
