Default Big coolant leak!!!

After finally resolving my misfiring problem on this 2005 A4 3.0 I found that I have a really big coolant leak on the driver side, near the firewall.
This only happens when the car reaches operating temperature and the thermostat is open, otherwise there is no leak when the car is cold.
And obviously there is no leak when the car is just sitting, with the engine off.
I was only able to kinda localize the leak when I crawled under the car, but I will have to work from above and remove a lot of stuff to get the root cause of my problem.
The catch is that I cannot warm up the car to check where the leak comes from as I started to remove the things that obstruct the view, plus the engine get way too hot to work on and I need to wait until things cool off to resume work.
Does anyone know which hose/component tends to leak? Specifically one that only leaks when the engine is warmed up?
I am open to thoughts and suggestions.
TIA.

near the firewall is the coolant flange, but thats passenger side. drivers side would be thermostat but thats not by the firewall. i would bet flange. if theres orange gunk on the transmission its the flange.

Question

I need to add that the car sat on a dealer lot for about 7 months and was neglected. Only 27 k miles though but I wonder if a hose dried up and became brittle...
The leak is definitely on the driver side, by the firewall.
Since it only leaks when hot I suspect this eliminate part of the cooling system that is used with the thermostat shut.
Makes sense?

Difficult to say...

its the flange! order a flange, coolant sensor, o ring, and the clip that holds the sensor in.

My Bentley manual is for my 2000 A6 2.7t and a lot of things have changed since then...

In retrospect I wish I had a 1.8T instead...
