Question Buying an A4 3.0 6-Speed (Known Issues?)

Hello everyone, I am in the market to buy a used 2002 Audi A4 3.0 6-Speed. Are there any common problems or issues to watch for when buying a used A4 V6. The car I am looking at buying has 80,000 miles on it. I know that at 80,000 miles I'm going to need to look into replacing the water pump and timing belt, but are there any other common issues to watch out for? The car I'm looking at is over 3 hours away from my house so I don't want to commit to the trip unless I'm sure this Audi is worth the drive. I'm sure you guys have been through this and will be able to help. Thank You

Here is the link to the car I'm interested in:

Default Nice A4

I have an 04 A4 3.0 in silver with 85k. I purchased it with 47k and with a few months of warranty. My car has been no problem if you keep up on the service. Just today had to replace 4 ignition coils ($500) at the dealer. The timing belt service will cost $1000 to $1500, but outside of that no real big costly issues. You might have the car check with a local Audi dealer or a good mechanic for about $100, it's worth the money spent. My only complaint is the 6 speed manual, it's hard to modulate smooth shifts, the same problem with newer A4's. Good luck.

Thank You for the Reply. The A4 I'm looking at does come with a short 3 month warranty. I'm still waiting on the dealer to send me the carfax for it though, but other than that I'm pretty much sold. Thanks for Your Help

Purchased a 2003 A4 3.0 MT6 for my daughter, 69k miles from a private party (no warranty) in Aug 2008. I've had it throw a few misfire codes (diagnosed at AutoZone for free) which cleared themselves after a week or so. I capped off leaky headlight washers (same as I did on my A6) and have a current problem with the windshield washers not squirtng. Have not had time to investigate yet. I find the car VERY comfortable, nice interior and features (in some ways better than my A6), and contrary to above stmt the MT6 shifts very smoothly. The engine has nice torque and I can easily accelerate from 40 in 6th, conservatively.

You should replace the TB, water pump, and all associated tensioners and thermostat and belts soon, certainly by 90k. Online kits will cost about $400 and the shop time is ~6 hours. A good indie shop who knows Audis will be cheaper than the dealer, but it has to be done right as I believe these are interference engines and if the timing is not right, you bend valves, destroy pistons.

We've been very satisfied with both Audis -- I have almost 138k on mine, all OEM except for listed mods.

i personally drove 4 hours (each way) to test drive and pick up my audi, that's 4 trips, ouch, but over all I'm pleased with my purchase. once i got used to my car the shifting smoothed out. the only problem I have ran into (other than the rather large animal that hit the side of my car and i couldn't find it so idk what it was) is a loose wire which made my ac compressor go out. easy fix tho.
i have 34k miles on it and i love every inch of it.

I bought my 3.0 with 80K Miles on it, never saw it never drove it, just bought it online for 14K, absolutely no problems with the car, now I'm wondering if the belt was replaced as Audi recommends 75K replacement. Carfax doesn't really have any records of this other than regular services. The most competent shop I know here in Central California is the dealer, please someone feel free to correct me if there's anyone else on the bay area.
