can i put in regular 87 gas in my a4?

got a 2005 1.8T a4 cvt

can i put in regular gas in it? regular gas is going for $1.50 here in vancouver....i been putting in 91 octane all the time but its up to $1.63

what problems can arise if i do put in regular rather than premium? is it worth it to save 13 cents a litre

we pay the highest gas prices i think in north america.......works out to $5.50 a gallon US......its ridiculous...i hear friends in the US who pay $4.50 a gallon complain yet we pay a damn $1 more

If you put 87 octane your vehicle will spontaniously combust and blow up.

No in all seriousness don't put 87 unless you are starving and have absolutely no money, but then again you wouldn't have bought an Audi in the first place. That's how I see it, you buy a premium German vehicle you can afford premium gas.

PS. Yes you will suffer from poor gas milage and weak-ass performance

Agree. You won't gain anything from droping a few cents. You'll see lower gas mileage and you'll see the pumps more often. I have the 3.0 "And Hate It BTW". I see a differnace in MPG when I change and thats an NA motor makes me wonder what a Tubro would do.

You can run regular unleaded in your car with no problem. The car has a knock-sensor that detects detonation and retards the timing appropriately. You will see a slight fall-off in performance and a *negligible* difference in fuel mileage but hardly enough to offset what you will save buying regular vs. premium.

dont really understand these people who want to put regular gas in their cars. spend the extra 10-15 cents a gallon more (whats $1.50-2.50 more per tank? nothing) and save yourself any possible trouble you could suffer from putting 87 octane in it.

He was just asking a question. He probably didn't know the answer that is why he asked it.

Look at the Manual, it says i think 91+ otherwise your injectors will get dirty and all other problems from running low octane gas.

I agree with the couple of above posters. The small .13 cents that you save will be worth it in the long run to avoid problems. Try filling the tank up when you've still got 3/4 or 1/2 tank. It'll keep your mileage up. I don't know about the N/A engines, but I know that my turbo says that it needs 91. Luckily I just bought my car so I took the increased price of gas into account when I bought the car. For you guys who've had your cars forawhile, the price increase must be a real pain.

87 does make a difference. Wether you notice it in soon or in the long run your internals will also be affected. There's a reason why the manufacturer recommends premium. Not just for sh*ts and giggles. Only BP Ultimate or Shell V-Power 93 for me.
