Default Car buying Question

I am thinking about making a purchase today. It is almost guaranteed. But I am stuck between a 2002 Audi A6 4.2L Auto vs 2003 Audi A4 3.0L auto. I wanted manual but I couldn't find any. Also the prices can't be beat at this dealer. about 11gs for both.. 2002 A6 has 90,000+ miles on it and the 2003 A4 has 87,000+ miles on it. I am leading towards the A4 because of Safety rating is better and you get better MPG. But the A6 has Traction Control System and it has a few power options plus and the A4 only has Power windows. Which one would you buy? I don't plan to mod the engine.. but maybe body mods..

I like the a4 styling better... The only upside I see to the a6 is the seat room in the back...

Well, as far as safety rating, you have to look at the classes themselves. For example, take a 5-star rated toyota echo and a 5 star rated Mack dump truck. speed them up to 80MPH and point them at each other. See who wins.

now, I'm not saying the A6 is automatically safer because its in a safer class, just that with the unfortunate "simplicity" of the ratings, it can actually be quite confusing. Personally, I'd go with the A6. But, at the same time, I wouldn't step foot in an automatic. The 3.0 is the killer for me, The only A4 I'll own is the 1.8T (maybe 2.0T in the future, if I don't get an A5/S5). No mods for the 3.0, so you might as well ride in comfort on the A6 and have that beefy 4.2 to haul your butt around. I'd hold out for a manual, but manual A6s are rare. Damn you, now you have me wanting a big a$$ A6!!

i personally dont like the styling of the A6, but thats your choice really. i'm assuming the A4 has quattro? both will need a timing belt ASAP, so try to haggle the price down $1k to compensate for the cost of this.

Have an Audi dealership check the timing belt, its free thanks to those *** Action ********* (I hate those lawsuits).

I feel sorry for your engine grenading, but Audi didn't plan that, that wasn't their intent when they made the engine. They didn't say "Hey, lets make it so that after 100,000 miles, the timing belts snap and grenade the engine, then we make another $3,000-5,000 off a $50,000 car 10 years later"

I don't mean to lessen the effect, get it checked. I just needed to vent since I got that class action thing in the mail
