Default Car Stalled / a/c Not Working (ECON) - ??

A week ago my 02 A4 stalled while making a left in 3rd doing around 40-50km. I pulled over and tried to crank it and nothing (sounded like the battery was dead). I noticed that there was smoke coming from the engine and there was a smell to it - hard to define, but it made me think it was the coolant. After looking at it, it seems like a coolant issue, but strangely the coolant was at its regular level. There was a few wet spots near the bottom of the engine "cradle". While waiting for the tow, I tried to turn it on again, and there she was up and running.

Anyways, after having my mechanic look at it, nothing wrong was found.

Today, it was the first hot day of the year, and noticed my "A/C" was shooting out only hot/warm air. The ECON button was on, and did not turn off...

I have no idea whats going on with this car.! Are these issues related? Anyone have any idea?

Thanks in adv.

Did you look at the "sticky" "common problems + repairs" thread at the top of the B6 forum here. I remember seeing something about this issue.

Thanks for the info.

The light white smoke was coming from the front of the engine (near the front left headlight). The coolant level was fine. It was smoking for maybe a minute. The car is functioning well now (as side from the A/C issue which seems like there is a crack somewhere and all the gas as leaked...)

+1 to checking on the coolant leak and the flange. just because the coolant level in the reservior looks good you may still have a problem with air in the system and with summer warm temps you could be in for some issues.

Better safe than sorry. Squeeze the radiator hoses and make sure you have no gurgling. burb it and make sure the air is out of the system.

i would check all your hoses also. I had a small coolant leak in the front drivers and it turned out to be the thermostat. . .
