Well the problem is that most companies dont use a heat resistant coating on their CF products which would help keep it from turning yellow. Just look at the OEM CF covers on the B7 RS4, those turn yellow pretty quickly.

Ours would help the packs because it is there to reflect heat from the turbo side but still allow air to flow between the CF cover and the valve cover.

here are a few shots.

Standard CF on my B5

Standard CF on a B6

Both CF covers on that B6

Dry CF version I have on my car now.

Mike, The pictures show a different form of the cover. The one I purchased replace the whole top of the motor cover, not just the side. Is that the difference of why yours allows increased air flow? Also the cover on the side of the engine bay, what is that covering? Or is it just for improved looks?

Yeah, you most likely bought a OEM version that covers the whole valve cover.

The one on the side covers up the steering pump tank and windshield washer tank. It just basically fills in the area and most people do it for looks.

Yes it does replace the OEM cover. Sorry for all the questions! I will probably end up buying the engine cover for the steering pump that you described. Just to finish up the look. Thanks

I can't remember because it's been so long since I've had one, but doesn't the OE cover have slits cut in above the packs? Or holes or something? The last ECS version I saw hade no holes in it at all, which means all the heat is trapped inside. The Carbonio at least cut the holes in to let some heat out.
Once I pull my block for bore/build this winter, I'm switching to DTH, as then I'll be powdercoating my valve cover dark to match.
And here is a DTH driver's side RS4 cover in my car.

Be very careful when buying a CF engine cover. They discolor VERY VERY VERY fast or turn yellow from the heat of the turbo/engine. ...I learned the hard way.

After you buy, what you need to do is take the parts to a paint shop and have them put a couple good clear coats on it... also, wrap the back side of the cover with Dynaliner by Dynamat, this will keep heat from the engine from soaking into it.

Of course its still going to get hot, but this will give it some extra life..

HOPE THAT HELPS a lil in your buying

BTW, dont buy ECSTUNING's, they are poorly made and arnt always cut right. go buy Mike's at DTH or if you can find someone that still has Carbonio's instock... buy one! and let me know too! bc Carbonio no longer makes them

So heres the skinney on the ECS CF cover....looks good...not vented...fits in the correct spot, but the holes to attach arent shallow enough to mount with the stock hardware...Is it that hard?? So Im going to hope that they will take it back and give me a credit so I can exchange it for a DV or something. Mike@DTS, Im going to be ordering your CF package within the next week. So thats my take, and hopefully I will prevent someone from making the same mistake.

be careful with those ECS guys... i had to file a BBB complaint because of their false advertisment and warrenty issues. plus if you google them they have tons of complaints of credit card fraud.
