Changing tire size to raise ground clearance...
Hey, Newbie to A4's but I will run snows year 'round because we have 20-30 feet for 7 months out of the year, but I want to go to a taller tire instead of the stock config (P215/55HR16) from Audi.
What size can I go to? It looks like I can go up a size or two taller?? 215/65/16's? Going with Cooper W/M II's.
Anybody else go smaller width/taller size and still have clearance and no tire rubs in the wheel wells? What is the max snow depth that people have gone thru? We get a constant 12-18 inches every time it does snow on the roads before the plows clear it off...

I don't think a slightly higher profile will make much difference. A more aggressive full winter tire (like Blizzak) would be your best bet. The A4 is fairly heavy, but not as heavy as my A6 with 235s and when snow exceeds a foot, especially with ice under it, forward movement is iffy. If you get mostly poof powder, then you'll have no problem with standard tires. The lower engine cover across the frame tends to float the front end in heavy snow. On the other hand, in several inches of packed snow it runs great.
Suggest looking into a good snowmobile. Sounds like you are living in the Wasatch Mtns.

Thanks ppgoal. I'm on the West end of the UP in big snow country. We got over 10 feet so far just for November and I see another 18" fell last night. Buffalo is full of cry babies if you ask me. The good thing about it is it's a light powder snow. We got a good melt over the weekend and the 4 foot that was on my metal roof slid off. I got 2 sets of take-off Blizzak's and ralleye style wheels from the dealership. My mechanic repairs mostly Audi and V-dubs so he steered me towards the best deals for sale. Looking foward to this B6. It's low miles too. Major service at 75k, timing belt, serpentine belt, battery, etc.

Welcome, fellow Michigander. I'm down near Grand Rapids and we only scored 152" last year, although we're at 29" so far. Nothing compared to what you are seeing. I was guessing the mountains outside of Salt Lake since they receive about 800"/year - fine skiing, too. Enjoy the A4 and make sure it warms up well and always use full synthetic for the turbo. Another option if you find any traction problems is to put snow straps (chains) on. I think ECS Tuning carries them, but so should all the auto stores up your way.

Make sure your underbelly fasteners are all properly installed. Mine came loose in the snow and some debris wound up cracking my thermostat housing BTW. the fasteners used for the underbelly splash guards cost 9-10 dollars each so if you have some missing like I did, check the aftermarket.
