Cleaning Throttle body and VAG-COM question
I need to clean the TB on my girlfriends 05 A4 1.8T. I read somewhere that you have to do a VAG-COM on it if you disconnect the battery for the car to start or something. I am not used to something like this since I've always worked on GM vehicles and you don't have to worry about anything like that. It's pretty simple and straight forward when cleaning the TB, but what about the whole VAG-COM thing and what exactly is that and how do I fix it if it happens?
That is just what I have read. I'm new to the Audi world so I wanted to ask. Ok, so if I don't disconnect the battery and just unplug it and then take it off, will I still have to have the car do the whole relearn thing or whatever it is called? I want to get everything straight before I do this so I don't mess anything up on my girlfriends car.
Hmmm, well I don't have either of those since it's not my car. I guess I'll just unbolt the TB and leave everything connected and just clean it with the cleaner and a towel to keep from having to do all the relearn stuff.
I did not have to do the tba after removing my tb and it was completely disconnected. Supposedly, you can do the tba by holding the pedal all the way down for 5 seconds while the car is in "on" but not running. Then turn the ignition to off.
Don;t disconnect the bat.
Disconnect TB
Clean it
Remove and clean the sensor connected to it (might as well)
Reinstall it
Do a Throttle Boddy ALIGNMENT by turning key to start position, DO NOT TURN THE ENGINE ON OR TOUCH THE PEDALS! let the TB align for about 1 minute to be safe and then take the key out and re-start the car. That should do it for you.
You don't need Vag Com but if you have it then use it. I have it and when I did a TBA, I noticed the the TB making the same noises as when I just let it sit with the key turned to the on position for 1 minute.
