I just picked up an 02 Avant 3.0. has 163k miles. I'm having the radiator fan issue and I know its a common problem. I've researched on this site and others and I'm in the diagnosing stage.

Here are the symptoms.
Both fans come on on cold or hot start. They are running on "hi".
Both fans stay on for several minutes after the car is turned off;running at variable speeds.
Battery draining- replaced with NEW battery.
A/C is not blowing cold.
Heater blows hot air.
Temp Gauge shows normal temp and gets to normal operating temp in normal time.

Side Note-Airbag light is on.


Here is what I have checked so far.

1. No CEL (checked with OBD11 scanner for faults no faults . Have not checked with VAG COM).
2. I replaced the battery with new battery.
3. Pulled fan fuse in fuse box, and the fan would not turn off.
4. Checked the "219" relay and relay box. Completely dry- All relays look new.
5. Coolant level is normal.

Next steps.
Replace the temp sensors (starting with bottom-grey, then the green one).

Any other recommendations?
