Question Crash course in coilovers?

Hey guys,

I need some help because I'm getting a headache from thinking about it.

So I'm looking into dropping the audi on some coilovers. I'm hoping to lower it down to about the top of the sidewalls, if not more. I measured the distance and it's about 3.2" from fender to sidewall. That's a lot of drop. It looks like AP Coils would give me the most drop (3.5" front, 2.9" rear). Anyone had any experience with them?

Also, I've heard and noticed that stock 2003 suspensions are a little higher than other years (well, mine is anyways). Is that just because they used a taller spring? And if I got these coils, would I be able to achieve the same drop as other model years? Or would I not go as low as, say, a 2002 would be able to?

Thanks, guys!

By the way, I have 17's if that changes anything.

Its not the model years that change in height, some cars are equipped with "sport" suspension which is about 1.5 inches lower than the standard suspension which you have. Coilovers can be a nightmare if you don't shop around properly and you should know what you are getting into.
Most coilovers need to have the damping set, and setting the damping can be a major pain in the *** if you don't know how to do it. Its also expensive to have the shop do it for you because of the labor involved in taking the wheels off, manually changing the setting on each strut, putting the wheels back on and then test driving it over and over to get the desired ride you're looking for. If you buy them from a company like Stasis engineering which use Koni's the damping will be set for you by stasis. Basically you are paying extra to have Stasis do it for you right out of the box, usually they do a pretty good job in finding the balance between performance and ride quality. I was really happy with the set i got for my S4.
Any coilover can give you drop to the floor looks, especially if you cut the bump stops. You could even tuck the wheel in the fenders if you're silly enough to do so.

Thanks! I have been looking into Stasis coils a little bit. And yes, I am silly enough to tuck wheels. Thanks again!
