Default CVT?

I have been reading some posts here and have learned of some problems with CVT. This may be a stupid question but how do i know if my car has this? It is a 2004 a4 1.8t quattro.

Thanks

If your car has it, there would be no shift shock when accelerating. Its like your car stays in 1st gear until you release the gas, then shifts to whatever gear you should be in (say 4th gear). But because that's the way the tranny was designed, its not bad for your car. Basically having a CVT just gives you a very smooth fluid acceleration.

Thanks. I have done some browsing and from what I gather I do not have a cvt system as I have the quattro, not FWD and it does not seem to shift like those described.
