cyliner #4 misfire
i have a 2002 a4 1.8T AMB, so after i got my car back from my mechanic who rebuilt the turbo back in january, there was a very small misfire that would happen between 3k-4k when shifting (not always there, just on occasion). well i went to drop off my sister and cousin at school this morning and i went to shift from 3rd to 4th, then i hear the misfire and now the check engine light is blinking and feels like im running on only 3 cylinders, so i brought it by my old high school where i spent a lot of time in the garage working on the audi, (clutch, oil pick up tube, oil changes etc...) i pulled the code and it said misfire cylinder #4. so im going to napa for a coil pack ($31 each) and plugs ($14 each), my questions are: 1. should i buy just the one coil pack for that cylinder and wait to replace the other three at my next tune up or get all four at the same time? 2. should i change my plugs at the same time? the current plugs only have about 30-35k on them. 3. how easy is it to replace the coils? is there a write-up or diy anybody can send me or help me out with? im going to napa right now and ill check back on here when i get home, should be about an hour
changing the coils is straight forward. Just unclip the harness and pull out the coil. It is suctioned in there so it might take a little force. Then just push the new one back in all the way and plug the harness back up. should only take a few minutes to do.
towed it to my mechanic on tuesday and got a call from him today saying its ready. they said they hooked up the computer and it was misfiring cylinders 3 and 4 so they replaced the two coil packs. runs great now. paid $96.99 after labor, tax, and parts. then he told me to contact audi about their recall and that if i send in my reciept they'll reimburse me for everything.
