Engine Check Light on - P1296, P0505
All,
A4 1.8T, 2002, 80K
My engine check light came on yesterday. I took my car to Napa store and one of the local mechanics.
P1296 code came up with Fuel Air Meetering and also another for Cooling system malfunction. Mechanic told me that its just a temperature sensor is bad and needed change. He did all the test with engine/temperature when he hooked up his comp to the car, showing inlet temp 97, outlet 187 at 3000 rpm.
Then the fun part...to do list
- New temperature sensor
- Plugs and coil (anyways they are due for replacement)
- Timing belt (shall I wait for more miles. Does anyone know if 105K holds good in Michigan law like that in California). In that case I will just get it checked/inspected
- Water Pump
- Thermostat
- Serpentine belt
- Volve cover gasket
- Timing chain tensionar gasket (seem like there is some oil leak)
- New break pads (I need those for sure), any suggestions on what should I get and from where?
Please help me to understand what is necessary and what is not.
Thanks for replies in advance.

I am not one hundred percent sure, so don't quote me on this, but Audi did extent their coverage of temperature sensors on some older models, and you just may be covered. You could call a dealer and find out. I know it was extended to 10 years/100,000 miles.
