Post Engine Light Always on?

I've got two new problems... The previous owner must have been a dumb *** with this car...Just problem after problem.

First problem: I was feeling spirited and decided to go 100MPH down the highway. I guess the electronic "speed limiter" was activated at some point, as the engine light went on after I did this. The next morning the engine light is still on.... It drives fine and everything, but it still isn't turning off and it's starting to aggravate me. What went wrong here? How can I fix it?

Second: Occasionally when I start up the car and put it into (D), the background on all the drive gears go red, and i'm not able to change into Sport mode, or manual shift mode. The instruction literature says that means there is a transmission malfunction, but the thing is, it only does this sometimes -about 40% of the time.

Please get back to me!

Thanks!

-steve

1st problem: CEL will create codes, pull them out and post in here.

2nd problem: That means something wrong with your transmission. Although it only happens sometimes but it doesn't mean your transmission is healthy. Have someone scan codes for you, it may generates codes in the system too.

The MPH alerts shouldn't stay on all the time, right?

Get the codes read so that the members here can see them and sort them out, then specify if is a Quattro or a FWD, if it's FWD your transmission is about to set you back a few thousand dollars.

I'm not sure what you guys mean by codes...lol I'm a newb just for your reference. If you could clarify that would be nice.

It is the Quattro BTW.

After I did the speed run there was a little MPH sign with a circle around it, with a 1 at the top right of the circle. (Like an exponent.)

Check the codes with a Vag com reader, or at Autozone I think they'll do it for free. Maybe you shouldn't drive your parents car that fast... Anyways, does the little MPH light stay on all the time or only when you reach 65MPH plus?

This isn't my parents car . It's mine.

The MPH sign is gone, although the CEL is still on. I've gone over 65MPH without the light coming on, I think you can set the limit.
