Engine Noise got codes
The car is a 2002 B6 1.8T.
Yesterday the oil light was showing up. I ran the codes nothing showed up.
Checked oil level its fine
Today when my brother got home he told me the car was making a noise.
I checked and it has a ticking noise coming from the top end of the engine under the valve cover.
Checked oil level still fine
These are the three codes p0011 p0333 p0328
any ideas what this problem might be?? suggestions on what to check out??

p0011 A Camshaft Position - Timing Over-Advanced or System Performance Bank 1
p0328 Knock Sensor 1 Circuit High Bank 1 or Single Sensor
p0333 Knock Sensor 2 Circuit High Bank 2
You might have a cam slipped... but with that oil light, I'd check to see if you have good oil pressure to the heads and lifters. Might be a sludge issue.

my money's on sludge blocking the oil pickup line. By any chance did this light come on after some harder driving? The blockage probably releases itself from the pickup after car has been sitting, only to get sucked back...

i removed the cylinder head cover to inspect the camshaft bearings.
The intake camshaft bearing cap at the top of the engine closest to the cab is damaged.
What is the recommended plan of action when this problem occurs??

all that i did was remove the caps on by one and then i found the damaged one.

Is there not a bearing in the cap? Hmm.. dont know the 1.8's, they might have no bearings, but rely on the cap as a bearing surface.. kinda like the Viper v10 motor...
Anyways, does this TSB pertian to what you have been finding?

edit; Also, it seems the one by the firewall is the last in line for oil, so it will fail first.

Condition
Low engine oil pressure light is ON
Service
Preliminary diagnosis reveals actual low
engine oil pressure condition (engine oil level
is OK and oil pressure switch, instrument
cluster, wiring harness, etc. are OK).
– Remove valve cover.
– Inspect camshafts bearings (Remove only
one cap at a time) for damage.
If ALL camshaft bearings are OK (NOT
damaged):
– Engine must be repaired as described in
“Engine repair guidelines” section.
If one or more camshaft bearings are
damaged:
– Complete engine must be replaced as
described in “Engine replacement
guidelines” section.
Note:
Requires FOM authorization for engine
replacement.
Engine repair guidelines:
If no camshaft bearings are damaged:
– Inspect camshaft chain tensioner for visible
damage on the pads in contact with the
chain. Replace tensioner as necessary.
– Remove oil pan.
– Inspect for oil sludge or solid deposits in oil
pan, valve cover and around camshafts.

yes the the TSB i was referring to and came across is in the bentley manual.
so I'm thinking that i should be removing that camshaft and inspecting for damage to the camshaft correct??
by the way, thanks for the advice and help...
