Post Equipment list from VIN Number

Hi Guys and Gals,
My daughter bought a used 03 A4 Quatro with the 1.8 . I want to help her maintain it and bought a CD service manual. The thing has too much information and it is difficult to determine which model or equipment package is correct. It will take the VIN number, but says it needs more detailed information with a list of Model, Engine, Trans, etc., so it is impossible to know what to select. These are just numbers such as 8E2, etc. Is there a way to use the VIN number to determine the installed equipment on the car? Is there a site with that information? If not what manual should I get that is a little more user friendly. Thanks.

Default A4 Manual on CD

It was purchased on eBay. the original source is not known. It is called ELSAWin. Is there a simpler one out there?

Not familiar with ELSAWin. I know in countries other than the U.S. they use ERWIN repair manuals. The ONLY company to publish an audi repair manual for our U.S. model Audi's is Bentley publishers. Audi thinks pretty highly of it considering it is the same repair manual the technicians use.

I'd recommend the Bentley Manual #AB66. Its the repair manual on DVD. It has everything, TSB's DTC's schematics and all the sequences and torque specs to repair per factory specifications.

I should say that the manual itself is not too valuable an asset without the proper diagnostic equipment and ross-tech (www.ross-tech.com) is truly the only worhwhile investment (if you want to avoid taking your car to the shop once you realize the limitations of discount manual and diagnostic equipment). Save yourself the money and buy the right stuff the first time.

Default Equipment list

Hi
In your trunk (where is spare wheel) should be a list with the car information. The same list,You can find in the service or maintenence book of your car. In this list You have a option codes (three letter code exp.:X9X J0L M7F Q4H 3S0 etc) Go to this site

http://igorweb.org/equidec/Default.aspx

and write all codes as is instructed there.

Good Luck!

Is the CD-ROM manual different from the Bentley book manual. I bought the book and am a little disappointed, it being so thick, that it doesn't have a section on turbo replacement (A6 2.7t), engine rebuilding, transmission removal, etc. I've done some work like this on less complex machinery and I'm curious if I would be able to do it myself. I won't be rebuilding the engine or anything, but I would at least like a manual that shows how to do it. I've heard about the $2,000 dollar pro shop manuals. I am actually considering getting those since this car will be my first project vehicle. Does the CD-ROM have more info than the book? Enough to buy it on top of the book?
