flashing sign on dash - turbo?
Hello there,
Here's my issue, last week while I was driving my 2004 Audi A4 1.8T Quattro, a “red can” kinda symbol appeared on my dash, this is the same sign that’s on the turbo if I open my hood. I have attached a pic for your reference.
The sign hasn’t appeared for the past 2 weeks though, however just to be on the safe side, I would like to know what the issue is/was. Also last month the car ran out of oil for the 1st time ever. I had replaced the oil just a month ago.
I would be grateful if anybody could give me some insight into any potential probs here. Please email me at lordiyer@hotmail.com.
Thanks
Vivek

[QUOTE=monsterrider;1138785]It indicates low oil pressure. You are either burning or leaking a lot of oil. It will come back on when the level is low again, typically going around a curve and the oil moves away from the pick up.
[/Thanks, do i have to take it to a mechanic or can i just buy some synthetic oil and top it off myself? Any special requirements as I pour the oil?]

No special requirements, just use a good synthetic oil. Check the oil level regularly for a while to see what's happening. If it continues to disappear you have a major problem that needs a mechanic.
The low oil pressure light is red indicating you have a serious problem - no oil getting to the engine parts. Driving the car with the light on will cause permanent major damage, that's why you need to stop immediately if the light comes on.

hello Bob,
Got my oil checked...the level was good..checked for leakage too...no leakage and no burn...maybe it just had to do with me going round the curve or something....is there anything else i must get checked?..or can i just assume that was a randomly generated error message on my dash,..that just flashed and then disappeared..car seems to run very normally
Thanks
Vivek
