fuel filter swap
I was told that the fuel filter for the B6 3.0 will fit the B6 1.8T.
My local parts store does not have one for the 1.8T, but does have the one for the 3.0.
Part # FF777
G6579

You are right, but a fwd and a quattro fuel filter are not the same part number. But, if you have a quattro with either 3.0 or 1.8 and he's looking up the filter for the same car with either engine then it will fit, so long as his listing is showing one p/n for a quattro. If his listing shows one p/n for 3.0, then you might get the wrong one if the one he's selling is for a fwd and you have a quattro.
I just looked at them side by side. The 8E0-201-511-L for fwd looks exactly the same as the 8e0201511J for quattro, same diameter cans, 2 lines in, 2 lines out and all positioned in the same spots. Weird, in and out on the same sides too. There must be something different internally? Well, now my answer really doesn't help you as much as I thought it would.
