Hey guys,

Just a quick question. Last nigth I noticed that my oil level was drasticallylow so in a pinch I rummaged around for some bottles and found 2 full bottle of 5w30.... the car is running on 5w40 but like I said it was VERY low on oil so I put in one litre of Royal purple 5w30 and one litre of Mobil One 5w30....

Is there anything I should really be worried about? Obviously I'll be chaning the oil quite soon, hopefully this week but in the meantime is this OK?

 

In spite of the marketing hype, oil is basically oil. Additives may vary, but even "synthetic" is largely dino oil. 5W-30 will be fine. I usually mix Mobil1 0W-30 and a couple quarts of 0W-40 in my 2.7T during the summer. It has 197k and uses no oil. Now, if you are racing this car hard, the -40 may help increase the viscosity but I doubt you are doing this as racers don't scrounge for oil in the garage.

 

No, you'll be fine. It's more critical to have enough oil than topping off with a different weight/brand/type
