Hello AudiForums members
I am new to the Audi world and am looking at a 2005.5 S4 with 116,000 miles on it. It has had 2 or it may be the 3rd including the mechanic that has it now. He buys cars and fixes them up. I have not pulled a carfax on it yet but what do you think it's worth? He is asking $14,000.
Also, are there specific things that go bad wit
Is this a reliable car?
Thanks for the help.

The good... if the engine was maintained well, it's almost bulletproof. I have 171K on my 06 S4. Same engine. I've had it since May, and I look forward to driving it every day.
The bad, this engine consumes a lot of oil, especially as it ages. I check my oil every time I fill up and usually add a quart every other fill up. That's not cheap. Plus, she is a thirsty one one gas milage as well. My on-board computer says I've averaged 15.5 MPG since I gave he a tune up 4000 miles ago. Also, the crank case holds 9.5 quarts of oil. That makes oil changes rather expensive, even for a DIY.
Something to listen for: when first starting the engine, you may or may not hear the timing chain rattle. Audi said it's normal. Mine did when I bought it, then it stopped after the oil change/ tune up. If it last more than just a split second, I would be a little worried. The good news is, in 2005, Audi upgraded the chain tensioners.
The deal-breaker: if it's an automatic, just walk away. The trans probably doesn't have much life left. Plus, you'll get bored with it quickly. If it's a 6-speed, you're good to go. Offer $12,000 and go from there. I think $14,000 for a B7 S4 in good shape is reasonable.
Good luck.

Is that true, it is an auto with the toptronics and the paddle shifters. The tranny doesn't have much life after say 120k? i thought the audi tranny's were for life since there is no filter or real way to flush. Or is that just marketing that has be fooled?
Thanks again for your help.
If it prevents someone reading this from being taken then it's worth it.
Guess with the oil use and low mpg i will be increasing my carbon footprint<G>
