Default Help with dashboard display!!

I've tried the search, but either because I don't know how to search this topic or it just doesn't exist, i couldn't find what i needed. When I press the "CHECK" button on my dash, it runs through the usual check and the symbols appear one by one, but for a while now it's been stopping at the circle with "MPH" written in it and has a "1" at the upper left section. It will keep beeping at me while i'm driving. Of course, if I drive and I don't press the "CHECK" button, it wont beep or anything at all so I wouldn't know that something was wrong.

1) my question is, what is that symbol?

The symbol you are seeing is a speed warning. It says in the owners manuals in your glove box in detail what it is. If i remember right you set the maximum speed that you want to hit and if you go like 6 MPH over the set speed you will get this speed warning.

From 2003 Audi A4 Owners Manual
p.153

Speed Warning
You can store a road speed which is not to be exceeded. As soon as you exceed that speed by approx. 6 MPH a warning sounds tones and "MPH" appears in the display.
Note:
Always monitor the vehicle speed by the means of the speedometer. The speed warning device may only be used as a reminder not to exceed the posted speed limit.

The following describes how to store or delete the speed warnings 1 and 2.

Speed Warning 1
The "MPH" disappears when you reduce the speed below the store speed. Also the "MPH" goes out when the driving speed increases approx. 25 MPH over the set speed limit for at least 10 seconds. The stored speed is not deleted.

Selecting Speed Limit
PRess the CHECK button for the Auto-Check control breifly when the desired speed is indicated on the speedometer. The speed warning symbol lights up when the button is released to confirm that the selected speed has been stored.

Canceling Speed Limit
Press the CHECK button for at least 1 second when the vehicle is moving at a speed above 3 MPH. The display will show the warning symbol crossed through to confirm that the speed has been cleared.

Speed Warning 2
When the ignition is switched off, the driver can store a permanent speed limit warning in the unit.
The warning is shown in the display as described above ("MPH" in a circle. A small "2" outside at lower right) The warning symbol only goes out once the road speed has fallen below the stored value again.
We recommend to store this speed limit warning if you wish to be reminded of a particular speed limit in addition to the speed limit warning 1. (For assistance when driving in countries with general speed limits or if a particular speed should not be exceeded when winter tires are fitted)

Selecting Speed Limit
1. Press the CHECK button briefly with the ignition switched off. The mileage recorder display will then light up.
2. Press the CHECK button again and hold it for at least 2 seconds. The speed limit currently set appears in the display.
3. To change the speed limit, press the top or bottom of the function selector switch for the trip computer (On the windshield wiper lever). The speed limit displayed will then increase or decrease by 5 MPH at a time.
4. A few seconds after the button is released, the display lighting goes out again.

Canceling Speed Limit
Press the CHECK button breifly with the ignition switched off; the display will light up. Press the CHECK button again for at least 2 seconds: the display will show the speed limit currently set. Now press and hold the "Reset" button (On windshield wiper lever also) for the trip computer until the crossed-out warning symbol appears.

I typed it just how the manual says and I explained what was shown in the pictures when needed. I hope this helps!

Audi gave us a special slot under our steering column just for our owners manuals, why can't everyone use them??!
