Default hid's

hey guys i have a 04 a4 quattro 1.8t and yesterday i was pulling out of my garage and when even i turn my car on my lights come on auto. then i realized that my bulb was a purple color rather than the usual kinda white bluish color like the other one. so i called a friend that works at a beemer dealer and he said thats what they do when they are about to go out. so i called audi and they want to charge me 430 for everything. my question is why are these bulbs so expensive? and are they hard to replace? is this something that i can do myself? i called other places that works on audis and they quoted me a cheaper price but im kinda scared to take my car there cuz i feel like they dont know what they are doing. also does the bumper need to be taken off in order to put the bulb in?

No, bumper don't need to come out, just headlight. You can buy a replacement bulb. They were quoting you all that money for the whole headlight assembly probably.

hid kits from the factory are rediculous prices. When u buy a new car they call it the xeon package (i know it spelled wrong) and they up the price of the car a cool grand and all u get are the hid lights. U can order new bulbs from ddm tuning just make sure to get the right one. U mighteswell replace both while ur at it cuz on my g35 i had someone back up into me and they replaced only one lamp and the new one is for one a different color and two way brighter then the other.

ok so then if its that easy then why is the dealer charging so much for labor if its something that can be done in less than 15 min that doesn't make any sense to me. r u guys sure there is not more to it then just putting a new bulb in?

i would have to say we are all pretty sure. I know dan has swapped his hids before and i have changed my fogs to hids as well as my low beams. Its really a straight forward process that cant really be screwed up unless u have no diy knowledge around a car. U can tackle the problem sir and if u have any troubles u can always drop a post.

I really haven't swap them, I was just wondering when I first bought the car what they were because I never had projectors before. But is still pretty straight forward.
