Default How many miles did your clutch last?

I know it will be different for everyone.

I have a 2002 A4/B6 3.0 that I bought CPO (Certified Pre Owned) a few years back from Audi that had ~40k miles on it. Now it has just over 100k miles. Obviously I don't know how the previous owner drove. I did teach my wife how to drive a clutch on this car.

They symptom that just started, is that I feel a bit of a pulse while releasing the clutch after a shift.

I haven't yet performed the "Up against the tree" test.

Thanks,
-PH

A good test is to put the car in 5th gear and try to pull off. If the car stalls the clutch is still grabbing and is good. If the car struggles but fails to stall then that means your clutch is slipping and you should start looking into replacing it. Hope this helps!! The clutch in my 02 1.8T lasted until 136k.....then I let my roommate drive it and it imploded lol

Mine has just over 80K miles on it now and the clutch still seems fine.

*crosses fingers*

How much is a replacement clutch, anyway, and if one's future wishlist for the car includes something along the lines of an APR Stage 1+, should one be looking at an upgraded, stronger clutch, or does +60HP over stock not mean too much?

Replacing all OEM parts it should cost somewhere around $2000...depending on how much they charge for labor. It sucks because you can't just resurface the flywheel; it is a "Dual Mass" flywheel which means it is basically two-in-one. You can upgrade your clutch if you want to, but with Audi's if you upgrade it can cause your car to shake and be jerkey....also driving in traffic is a real pain. If that doesn't bug you then go on ahead and go for it.

My daughter's 2003 A4 3.0 MT6 was purchased used two years ago at 69k and now has 86k -- oem clutch is fine. I chipped my A6 at 74k, replaced the clutch and flywheel at 88k, and now have 178k. Stage 2 clutch is not jerky and feels like the original clutch. LWFW does chatter at low speed under high(er) gear, but that is normal.

i put in a valeo clutch kit, which converted the "dual mass flywheel" into a single peice flywheel. car runs like a champ, good grabbing point, no shakes or shutters in any gear at any rpm. the kit only cost $470 and i put it in myself saving a ton of $$$ but its a big job.

This should be done with the car rolling at speed, not from a standing start. To get a car to move from a start in 5th gear you would have to slip the crap out of the clutch.

More miles out of clutch = less aggressive driving.

I'm also looking to change my clutch. my biggest concern is the flywheel. I'm not too excited about paying $800 for a new flywheel. I'm thinking about that valeo kit that 02a4kid talked about. Doing it myself too, the stealership wanted $2277 lowest and $2726 highest.

The Clutch Masters clutch/flywheel kits are a good choice.
