Looking for B6 A4...
Hey guys I am new to the page and I have been looking for an a4 for a long while...i have a couple of options...there is one that is a 02 1.8t quattro with 72k and they want $12k for it...i like it but it has 16' rims andi love the 17' sport rims so i'd have to put more cash into it off the bat...the other is a 05 1.8t with 105k on it and they also want about $12k for it...it has all the fixens on it, but has an aweful lot of miles on it esp for an 05...
which way would you lean or would you suggest to continue looking? if so, where?
Any suggestions for the 17' rims/tires?
what would you offer for them?
Any help would be greatly appreciated!
thanks!

Well what's your budget? Either of em can be a good deal or a bad deal depending on what your $$$ situation is like. The 02 has no sport pkg and you can bring it down close to 10 if you're a good negotiator. The 05 isn't a bad deal if its got all the packages. High milage just means it was driven on highway most likely at a constant pace so no extra stop-go wear on the engine. As long as it wasn't beaten and had regular maintainance it can easily go another 70k miles. You can see what kind of a driver the owner was by looking at the interior/exterior condition.
Yeah, you never know which car is better, unless you do the full inspection.
Just my thoughts.
05 prolly was driven mostly on a hwy - which is good.
You can get decent rims/tires (used) for less than a grand.
So go ahead and test drive both.
Also, make sure you can get as much as possible of different receipts from the previous maintance. And of course make sure timing belt was done (about $600 job) and ask about the clutch if thats manual.

Ask if the timing belt is new (tensioners/water pump).
Look for any oil leaks, especially near the engine.
Ask for all the receipts
And for every oil change receipt if they got those.
Feel the clutch, cause thats when they start going out (but that depends on a driver)
Otherwise just go ahead and test drive one.
