Model year inversely correlated to CVT transmission problems?
So, I own a 2005 B6 (pre-update) and have 56,000 miles on it. My mechanic, whom I trust (Jose from Euro Tech in LA), let me know my honeymoon period is over with the car and to expect to have to replace the transmission at some point in the next 20,000 miles.
Given that there are only complete rebuilds available for this CVT, priced around $6,000, I'm scared about the prospect. So, I've read everything online I can find about issues with the CVTs, and I did seem to notice one thing. It appeared to me that more people had trouble with older models, 2001-2004, and maybe only once I saw someone report an issue with the 2005. Is it possible Audi improved the final model year B6? Maybe I'll get to avoid this issue? It also occurred to me that, while Jose knows his stuff, he also only deals with people who have problems. Perhaps there are a lot of people out there with no issues at all.
I'd like to know what model year B6 you have and whether you've had transmission issues.
