Default Moonroof stuck partially open

So I've done some searching and looked through many threads but none have a real fix for the messed up moonroof. Recently bought a 2003 A4 1.8TQM and from the beginning the moonroof would click a couple times when opening or closing. Didn't think much of it but now the cables are out of alignment. The driver side closes completely but the passenger side is still up about an inch. I've tried the allen wrench in the motor but the gears are too chewed up on the motor. I removed the motor to see if I could move the cables by hand at all and I moved the driver side slightly but not the passenger side at all.

I'm guessing this is a headliner removal type of job or is there an easy way to at least get the roof closed until warmer weather?

I can still use the motor to open the roof all the way and at least get the cables even again, but the passenger side still only closes down to an inch away.

A friend of mine has a Passat of the same year, I was thinking I could borrow his moonroof motor to at least get mine closed and then just not put my motor back in until I get it fixed.

Thoughts? Anyone know of a DIY thread on this? Nothing in Chilton manual except how to remove and swap out the moonroof glass.

Thanks much!

Hi MKE,

I have this same problem with my 2003 A4. Did you find a solution?
