I'm in Colorado and I'm looking at an 2004 Audi in Elko, MN. Can anybody recomend a good "non dealer" garage mechanic for a pre inspection. I know the timing belt needs done and if I purchase the car after the preinspection I would have the garage co the timimg belt before I drove it back to Colorado.

Closest thing I know to there is about 35 miles away in Chanhassen MN. Joe Jeppesen at Jeppesen Imports, 7700 Quattro Drive, Chanhassen MN 55317. I've had my '02 A4 1.8T serviced there and was very happy with the results and the pricing. The only thing I could say that was negative about the experience is that he couldn't get it in immediately because he had a large queue of work already waiting. To me, that almost counts as a positive, simply because it means he has a large number of clients who trust their cars to him.

Not sure if the seller would be willing to take the car that far for an inspection, but at least it's a data point for you.
