Default Need help with Air Filter

Does anyone know how to get to the air and cabin filter on a 2003 A4? Half of it seems covered and I can't get it completely open.

Any help (including pictures - this would be great!!) would be really appreciated. Thanks

Cabin filter is on the passenger side by the firewall. Pull the cover off and the filter will be exposed. There's no clips nor screws holding it in. Just pull it out. The air filter is in front of the passenger headlight. Remove 2 screws that hold the air duct over to the air box and that piece that connects to the air box. This will make it easier to move the top of the air box. The top portion of the air box is held by 4 clips on each corner. Undo the clips and switch the filter out. Putting it back together is pretty straight forward. Hope this helps.

When I do it I also remove the connection plug that connects to the MAF. May not be necessary but breaking that connection would be a PAIN IN THE A$$ to fix. READ THIS!!!!

Thanks!! This is a huge help. I don't know how long its been since the filter was changed (> 15k miles/1.5 years) so I figured I needed to do it soon.

Also change the cabin filter while you're changing the air filter.

for $14 no, I don't think it'd be worth it. its super simple to replace and super cheap. I mean, really, its just filtering out the air you breathe, so its not "critical" to the operation of the car, but its still something I wouldn't bother to fool around with.

ok - I tried to get to the air filter and got half of the top piece off (the part held together by the two screws) but I couldn't get the back half off (it is held in by a rubber piece and is T shaped and I can't seem to get it out). Also, how do you unhook those metal clips???? Then when I try to move the wire over the box that holds the air filter in, I see it is taped down - do you know why?? Can I remove the tape and move the wire?? If so, what kind of tape should I use to put it back? Is looks like electrical tape but has a rough texture....I really need some more detailed help if anyone can help me!!

I am not the most mechanically inclined, but this seems like something that I should be able to do, but I am having a really hard time with this....

One last thing - what is the MAF and how do I make sure I dont bust the connection to it?
