New Audi owner
Well, I bought a A4 today... 2003 black on black 1.8t quattro. The car is amazing as I expected. I always wanted the b5 as I was a kid and now I get to play with a slightly newer b6, finally. First off I would like to mention the seller is a bastard. The check engine light came on after an hour of driving with code 420 and now I'm stuck with a predicament of how I should solve this problem. Do I get a new catalytic converter, o2 sensor, smoke a toke, or do I just go after the guy? I think I can fix the problem so that's what I would like to do. If anyone has ever experienced a code 420 and solved it please let me know how, or if anybody has any advice it is welcome. Anyway, just thought I would say whats up to the other a4 fanatics out there.
Cheers,
Chris

well for one thats the catalytic converter. VEry common on the audi. u can either replace with a stock oem cat new sensors and spend over 500! orrr u can get a hfc new sensors live with the code but accept more power out of the car for under 400 dollars! i lived with the code for so long when i installed my HFC that i forget the light is lit. I think THINK that if you decide to chip your car they can write out that code.

Unless you live in a smog test state, I'd just put a piece of tape over the MIL. That's what I did with my A6 even after I spent $2500 replacing cats, sensors. I also like the B6 body and my daughter's 2003 (in signature) is a sweet ride. I could not find one in good shape, low mileage, or the right price so I just snapped up the 2011 in red/tan, not my favorite colors but growing on me.
