new audi owner here
just bought my first one. 2003 audi a4 1.8t quattro 5spdm, 115k mile
i read through the known issues with these cars. is there anything else i should know of, or any coming up in this mileage range?
certain things have been replaced already (timing chain, brakes, etc...)
the clutch is a little concerning to me, but im not sold on it going out just yet. Ill do the 5th gear check and whatnot at another time.
what is the best bang for the buck modification on these cars? I am not looking to put a quarter mile monster here, just a little more power. I have owned and HEAVILY modified mustangs in the past (single turbo low comp 306 on the last one), but these are totally different. ha
thanks guys

If you question the clutch at all I would suggest you replace that before you put more power toward it.
Best upgrade is to flash the ECU with a program from APR or GIAC. $400-$500 will get you a nice boost without doing much else. From there you can incrementally upgrade injectors, exhaust, intake.... There is an active thread that has a lot of the performance conversation debating turbos and other mods.
I have the same exact vehicle and as far as the clutch goes I went with the RS4 Stage 1 kit from ECS with the lightweight flywheel. $550 Major upgrade from my starting to slip OEM clutch.
Welcome and good luck!

thanks for the reply.
after further testing, the clutch seems ok. however, i will still replace it. stock clutch at 115k...seems like a smart idea to just upgrade it before it breaks.
ill probably do the clutch, ecu and maybe a catback system at the same time. i like the sound of apr stealth exhaust. nice and deep
